SCOTLAND WITH STYLE SCOTTISH MUSIC AWARDS – THE TARTAN CLEFS 2010!
A fantastic night for Scottish Music and an incredible £130,000 raised for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland
Leading Scottish concert promoters, artist and tour managers and music journalists came together on Saturday 20th November to announce the winners of the 12th annual Scottish Music Awards – The Tartan Clefs, and raised a staggering £130,000 for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland.
The glittering, rock 'n' roll music awards ceremony, hosted by BAFTA & SONY Award-winning voice-over artist Lewis MacLeod, whose credits include Star Wars the Phantom Menace, was held in association with Glasgow: Scotland with style, ScottishPower and the Scottish Government in the presence of Fiona Hyslop MSP, Minister for Culture & External Affairs and Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow's Merchant City.
The prestigious annual ceremony was opened by Dougie Souness of No Half Measures before a unique performance to kick off the night from rock band GUN.
Broadcaster, TV Presenter, Comedian and Galaxy Radio's Breakfast DJ Des Clarke joined MacLeod for a comedy grace and a round of 1s and 2s before dinner, followed by an auction packed with international prizes including a week on former Apollo Theatre owner Frank Lynch's boat in Charleston USA, a luxury Take That ticket and Spa Day package for four lucky winners and Stevie Wonder's harmonica!
The night then began to crescendo as the Award winners of the night were revealed. There were two surprises in store for guests Maisie Wilson from SECC and Robert Hicks before the night ended on a high with a special headline set from Paolo Nutini.
WINNERS of the 2010 Glasgow: Scotland with style Scottish Music Awards – The Tartan Clefs nine awards in order of ceremony are:
1) Scottish Power Emerging Talent Award - Aerials Up
2) Ticketmaster UK Singer / Songwriters Award - The Bluebells – who also performed
3) Sir Reo Stakis Foundation Best Album Award - Amy Macdonald for 'A Curious Thing'
4) Guitar Guitar Lifetime Achievement Award - Gallagher and Lyle – who also then performed for the first time in 15 years
5) The Sunday Mail Industry Award - Frank Lynch, former owner of the Apollo Theatre
6) 96.3 Rock Radio Award for Services to Rock –Joe Elliott from Def Leppard – who then performed Boston Tea Party and Anthem with Billy Rankin and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
7) SECC Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry – Maisie Wilson
8) Scotland's Winter Festivals Musical Entrepreneur Award – Robert Hicks
9) Glasgow: Scotland with style Tartan Clef Award - Paolo Nutini – who then performed his headline set
The award for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry' sponsored by ticketSoup.com and presented by SECC Chief Executive John Sharkey, went to Box Office legend Maisie Wilson. The queen of ticketing was characteristically humble when presented with the award which recognised one of the most popular and respected figures in the industry.
Allan Snedden, Head of Concerts & Events at the SECC said: "Maisie can rightly claim to have sold millions of tickets over the last 35 years and she is held in the highest regard by everyone who knows her. It really couldn't have gone to a more deserving person."
